Edinburgh International Festival's new series of guerrilla operas is set to get pulses racing in Edinburgh's libraries from June 11 to June 16. Daily performances of Love in a Library, a selection of songs telling a story of unrequited love, is part of EIF's outreach work. It will be performed by soprano Emma Morwood - "the loveliest librarian in the Lothians" and tenor Chris Elliot (who's admired her from afar). Pianist Sam Hutchings is to accompany them at times during opening hours and they are set to take library users by surprise. Dates, times and locations will be announced the afternoon or morning before each performance.
Emma Morwood, born in Northern Ireland, is a winner of the Eva Turner Award for Potential Dramatic Sopranos. Chris Elliot, a winner of the John Ireland Song Prize, was one of fifty young artists chosen by Opera Now magazine as a rising star. Sam Hutchings works for leading organisations across Scotland, including the Edinburgh International Festival.
