Pelléas and Mélisande on the radio

On Saturday 25 March, BBC Radio 3’s Opera on 3 programme will broadcast Scottish Opera’s new production of Debussy’s Pelléas and Mélisande. This airing gives a welcome opportunity to those throughout the country to hear a performance which has been warmly praised by the critics.

This impressive production, which takes to the stage in Glasgow and Edinburgh in February and early March, is directed by Sir David McVicar.

Scottish Opera’s Music Director, Stuart Stratford, conducts the Orchestra of Scottish Opera and an outstanding cast including soprano Carolyn Sampson (Rake’s Progress 2012) as Mélisande, Cardiff Singer of the World Song Prize winner Andrei Bondarenko as Pelléas, Roland Wood (Trovatore 2015) as Golaud, Alastair Miles as Arkel, Anne Mason (Trovatore 2015) as Geneviève, and Jonathan May as the Doctor.

This not-to-be-missed broadcast of Claude Debussy’s extraordinary opera will be introduced on air by well-known Radio 3 presenter Donald Macleod. Likely start is 6.30pm.
