Semiramide

Semiramide returns to Scotland

Posted 22 Aug 2011

Rossini's powerful work is a passionate epic concerning Queen Semiramide's rule over Babylon. Shakespearian in its atmosphere, there are echoes of Oedipus, Phaedra, Hamlet and Macbeth. Renowned Rossini interpreter Alberto Zedda conducts Nigel Lowery's inventive production. A story of politics, lust, violence and murder, the piece lends itself to contemporary political allusions.
