Rothschild's Violin to be performed at Glasgow's West End Festival

In a praiseworthy piece of programming, the one-act opera Rothschild's Violin is being presented by Music Co-OPERAtive Scotland at the West End festival in a first operatic venture by the Cottier Chamber Project.  Fleishman, a pupil of Shostakovich, was killed in the war and the work was later completed by Shostakovich in honour of his talented pupil.

Veniamin Fleishman's Rothschild's Violin is performed in Russian in a semi-staged version and is coupled with three of the songs from From Jewish Folk Poetry op.79 by Shostakovich.

Music Co-OPERAtive Scotland are conducted by Ian Ryan and joined by two of Scotland's finest and most well-loved tenors, Iain Paton and Matthew Bridle, as well as emerging young artists Russian baritone Alexey Gusev and Ayrshire soprano Lauren McQuistin. The performance is supported by the Russian Cultural Centre.

This enterprising new venture deserves support from opera lovers everywhere.
