Free and open to all, the BP Big Screen programme is designed to bring opera from the Royal Opera House to opera lovers all over the country. Two Scottish venues have been chosen amongst the twenty across the UK. At Duthie Park, Aberdeen and Festival Square, Edinburgh a live HD broadcast of Madama Butterfly will be given on large screens to audiences thousands strong on July 4th. As this is the first year in which they have been shown in two Scottish locations (for five years they have been shown in Aberdeen only) the combined attendance may count as the largest audience for a single operatic event in Scotland.
Naturally this will depend on the Scottish summer!
Massenet's version of Cinderella, Cendrillon can be seen on July 14th - sadly it is being screened only in Edinburgh.
