Join Edinburgh Studio Opera to celebrate their fifty years of opera as they present two masterpieces in a contrasting double bill. Purcell's Dido and Aeneas based on Virgil's tragic love affair is partnered with Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, a hilarious comic farce rooted in a story from Dante's Inferno.
The high quality student cast, 27-strong, will be performing in traverse, using the length of the stage at Assembly Roxy to create dynamic and fluid stagings of these short operas.
With a backdrop of 1950s Italy, director Robert Hersey's retelling blends the glitzy world on a film set with the colourful home life of a band of cruel relatives.
Returning Musical Director Will Conway conducts, bringing with him 'a flair for the unpredictable'.
