As the Metropolitan Opera's screenings now attract nearly fifteen thousand paying customers a year in Scotland, many opera fans must be excited by the announcement of the 2012-13 season. Opera Scotland is struck by Donizetti's Maria Stuarda (January 19) - the Met premiere of Donizetti's work, some 178 years after its first performance! Joyce DiDonato plays the Scottish Queen.
The other Met premiere is Thomas Adès's The Tempest (November 10), and five more new productions are to be screened -L'elisir d'amore (October 13), Un Ballo in Maschera (December 8), Rigoletto (February 16), Parsifal (March 2) and Giulio Cesare (April 27)
Five further productions are to be screened - Verdi's Otello (October 27), Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito (December 1), Verdi's Aïda (Decmber 15), Berlioz's Les Troyens (January 5) and Zandonai's Francesca da Rimini (March 16).
Opera Scotland will be adding these to our listings when we have confirmation of the Scottish cinemas showing them.
