Opera Festival Scotland, a completely new organisation, has announced their inaugural event, to be held in Dundee in September 2021.
The headlining event of the Opera Festival is to be a Young Artists Singing Competition accompanied by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
Centred in Dundee's Caird and Marryat Halls, one of the aims is to promote up-and-coming talent, offering an opportunity to perform in front of a large audience and a panel of industry professionals.
Contributors to the Festival also include artists from Scottish Opera, English National Opera, and Opera for Peace.
The announcement from this new volunteer-led organisation brings hope for the future. It offers a promise of rejuvenation for audiences and artists alike during the 'time of coronavirus'.
Particularly welcome is the choice of location. Performing arts audiences in Scotland's fourth city have undoubtedly suffered over many years now from lack of easy access to live professional opera performance.
More information about the programme will be issued in due course.
