Roderick Brydon was one of the unsung heroes of Scottish Opera in its early years, and among his other achievements arguably did more than anyone to promote Britten's operatic works before they were fully accepted into the repertoire. He had many other achievements to his name, not least the encouragement of young talent.
In the couple of years since his death, well-known figures in the worlds of music and opera have gathered round to form a memorial trust in his name. Their aim will be to gather funds to carry on support for young musicians. These wil be devoted in the first instance to the purchase of scores for repetiteurs or young conductors, awarded through an application process which will be available to all the music colleges in Britain. Roddy was a fine repetiteur in his early days and many experienced singers owe much of their professional success to his coaching. The trustees are Ann Baird, Clare Brydon, Evelyn Bryson, John Currie, John Huntley, Donald Maxwell, Linda Ormiston and John Robertson. Please donate something - give whatever you can to help this worthy cause.
The secretary and treasurer is Evelyn Bryson, who can be contacted at 10 Manse Road, Bearsden, Glasgow G61 3PT or at evelyn.bryson@yahoo.co.uk
