On August 11, the Edinburgh International Festival announced that the performance of Thaïs on Thursday August 18 in the Usher Hall is to be dedicated to Lord Harewood, whose death was announced recently. Lord Harewood was Director of the Festival from 1961 to 1965 and did a very great deal for opera throughout the UK. According to the EIF, Thaïs was his favourite opera, and this performance will star the Festival Chorus which he helped found, led by Sir Andrew Davis and with Erin Hall (pictured). The young Canadian is returning to the Festival in the title role following her success last year in Mahler's eighth symphony.
