Trojans back in Scotland

Posted 27 Aug 2014

Hector Berlioz's epic work The Trojans returns to Scotland in a spectacular and colourful production by the Mariinsky Opera under Valery Gergiev.

Love and war, obedience and loyalty, fate and freedom. Berlioz's visionary work is on an epic scale, and deals with some of mankind's profoundest questions in a work of exceptional power and sensual lyricism.

The Trojans has a special place in the hearts of Scottish opera lovers, for it was here that it was givn its first performance in the UK under the baton of the legendary Erik Chisholm. In addition, Scottish Opera mounted the work in 1969 with a gripping production, which did much to restore the work to favour.
