European Opera Days

European Opera Days refers to the weekend nearest Europe Day, 9 May, and has been running across Europe since 2007.  This year, seven of the UK's opera companies have joined forces to produce Inside Opera: Live, a new and unique online event offering unprecedented behind the scenes access and insight into opera being created and performed across the country.  Our very own national company, Scottish Opera, joins with English National Opera, English Touring Opera, Northern Ireland Opera, Opera North, The Royal Opera and Welsh National Opera as part of a Europe-wide celebration of opera.

Designed for anyone who is new to opera, but with obvious appeal to opera fans, this ambitious event will be hosted on YouTube. It combines live streamed and filmed footage to give viewers a chance to experience opera across the UK from the inside and ancourages them to find out about the opera activity on their doorstep.

In the course of a crowded day, we will be able to hear from performers, and for example put questions to the artistic directors of  the companies involved using #insideopera on Twitter.
