Live from the Met 2013-14 Season

Posted 16 Jun 2013

New York's Metropolitan Opera's transmissions (live in HD) have quickly become part of the operatic landscape in Scotland; experienced opera buffs can pick out operas or performers they have never had a chance to hear, and those new to opera can check out the experience in a cinema closer to home or somewhat cheaper than a performance in the flesh.  Often too customers get comfier seats and better legroom than would be found in some theatres.  Unquestionably the format has attracted a new audience.

In the coming season nine cinemas in Scotland are offering the Met live transmissions on Saturday evenings (the Belmont in Aberdeen, DCA in Dundee, the Dunfermline Odeon, the Cameo in Edinburgh, the Cineworld in Falkirk, the Pavilion in Galashiels, the Renfrew St Cineworld in Glasgow, the Perth Playhouse and the New Picture House in St Andrews). One can buy a subscription ticket from the cinemas in question, or buy for the performance of your choice - but beware, even in these straitened times, shows can sell out.

There are ten offerings to look forward to - Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, Shostakovich's The Nose, Puccini's Tosca, Verdi's Falstaff, Dvorák's Rusalka, Borodin's Prince Igor, Massenet's Werther, Puccini's La bohème, Mozart's Così fan tutte and Rossini's La Cenerentola.  Entries have now been made in our listings for the performances.
