To all those working in opera in Scotland, paid or unpaid; and to all in the community who support this great art form by buying tickets and creating audiences, may you have the happiest, healthiest and most fulfilling of years.
As always, January is a time of year both to look back and look forward. We reflect in some sadness on the year just gone, acknowledging support given by those no longer with us. But we try also to celebrate, to salute our achievements, and choose some next steps.
In this New Year 2019, the team behind OperaScotland looks to pick up momentum again after a challenging year when the three co-founders were much distracted by life – and family - events.
Aims
From the outset, our aim has been to raise awareness of operatic events in Scotland.
It will soon be ten years since we started this lbour of love, started to load data. There is now a considerable amount of information for you to browse.
At the time of writing, the site lists 719 operas performed in Scotland. For almost all these works we have identified also the date of first performance in Scotland. OperaScotland contains the names of twelve thousand performers, and over six hundred venues.
We continue to load information about all forthcoming performances and offer free promotion for all who send in details.
