Anamchara, a family opera, was conceived as part of the Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme. Drawing on talents from across the Commonwealth, over 100 performers will bring the work to life.
It is performed by young professional singers, musicians and dancers from Scottish Opera, Calgary Opera, Cape Town Opera, New Zealand Opera and the India-based Yuva Ekta Foundation working alongside Scottish singers. The project draws on volunteers from Scottish Opera's Connect Orchestra and Chorus. There is in addition a community choir made up of children, students and adults from other Commonweath countries living and working in Glasgow.
Composed by Pippa Murphy to words by Alexander McCall Smith, Anamchara is a celebration of the ties that bind people together, whatever their age and wherever they make their home.
