Seven Deadly Sins

Posted 4 Sep 2011

Scottish Opera's adventurous new staging was held in two venues, offering cabaret style seating and holding an audience of only two hundred and fifty. This hybrid of opera and dance was created by Brecht and Weill after they had fled from Nazi Germany and were living, briefly, in Paris before their final removal to the USA. Cleo Laine starred as Anna when the work was first staged in Scotland in 1961, and it was choreographed and conducted by the Scottish double-act of Kenneth MacMillan and Alexander Gibson.
