Another great evening at Duthie Park, Aberdeen

Posted 5 Jul 2017

An estimated 2500 folk from the North-East came out on Tuesday 4 July to experience a BP Big Screen opera relayed from the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. The live screening of Traviata attracted the largest audience of any operatic event in Scotland this year.

The free screening followed previous Duthie Park opera showings, including in previous years Madam Butterfly, Carmen, Traviata, Marriage of Figaro, Tosca, and Turandot.

Comments from audience members at twenty venues across the UK seem wide ranging - some love the sense of occasion - the atmosphere - and a few have commented on the freedom we don't have in theatres to stretch out or to enjoy drinks and sweeties.

Others have found the background noise from cars, buses and aircraft frustrating.

But fantastic technology, an exciting experience.

Well done BP for providing such staunch support over the years, not forgetting Aberdeen City Council and the BBC.

Special thanks to Moira Docherty who provided us with such atmospheric photographs of the audience at Duthie Park, Aberdeen.  To see more of her photos, click here.
