Joyce DiDonato as Cendrillon

Cinderella in Edinburgh's Festival Square

Posted 8 Jul 2011

The Royal Opera House's live BP Big Screens performance will be broadcast free in Edinburgh's Festival Square on Wednesday 13th July, one of twenty Big Screens across the country chosen for the transmission. The great Joyce DiDonato takes the title role in  Cinderella (Cendrillon in Massenet's version) of the well known story. There will be exclusive backstage footage and we are promised live audience interaction.

It is hoped that these free screenings will introduce a new audience to opera, breaking down the barriers presented by more tradtional settings. Great for families wishing to introduce youngsters to opera!  BP are to be congratulated for their consistent support of these annual screeninngs.

The Royal Opera website makes a number of suggestions - for your picnic, champagne (but plastic glasses), fairy cakes and so on. Dress for the first act- or go in your glad rags - or go for the quick change!  A perfect choice for a romantic night out!
