Major General an orphan boy

Major-General Stanley - an orphan boy?

Posted 22 Apr 2013

An early poster promoting Pirates of Penzance highlights the claim of Major-General Stanley to be an orphan boy.

With this remarkable work (Monty Python before the Pythons), Scottish Opera returns after a lengthy absence both to operetta and Gilbert and Sullivan. In fact, this co-production also brings D'Oyly Carte, the original producers of the Savoy operas, back to the British stage after a long break.

There are those who say that Gilbert and Sullivan has had its day. But this view is hardly shared this year - Scottish Opera and its partners in this co-production are committed to fifty-nine performances that take the company to Glasgow, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Inverness before a number of venues in England and Wales. Surely we can expect something special in this anniversary year?  Check our listings on the home page for details and click through to the venue websites to book your tickets now!
