In Scottish Opera's fiftieth anniversary season, the main stage productions are to be Mozart's Magic Flute, Massenet's Werther and Wagner's Flying Dutchman, in addition to a co-production with D'Oyly Carte of Pirates of Penzance. We also welcome the by now traditional contribution from the Royal Scottish Conservatoire of Britten's Midsummer Night's Dream. In addition the small scale touring production is to be of Verdi's La traviata. The Verdi and the Wagner are presented in tribute to their respective bicentenaries. All these stagings are in addition to those announced for the Edinburgh International Festival. Of course we could wish for more or different, but it is a wonder given these straitened times how much we have to celebrate and look forward to.
