Opera Scotland

duet from the Magic Flute

2012: The opera summer and beyond

Posted 20 May 2012

Opera Scotland is looking forward to the announcement, now imminent, of the programme for Scottish Opera's fiftieth anniversary season; and to the programme for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe - which nowadays always contains some interesting operatic events.  We have plans over the next year for continued development of the website and to spread awareness of its content and historical material. We continue to add material if not literally every day, then certainly most days. Yesterday, for example, we added an obituary of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, not best known for his operatic roles, but remembered for his appearances in the Edinburgh International Festival in Marriage of Figaro and Duke Bluebeard's Castle.  See also our new entry for the first Scottish performances of Verdi's Falstaff in 1894.

Website visits and visitor numbers continue to grow steadily. But can we ask you please to spread the word about us, to follow us on Twitter and 'like' us on Facebook if you can?  We'd also like to encourage more people to send in information for our listings and photographs, biographies and so on. We intend to develop our profiles of singers and other performers, both past and present.

The music shown is from The Magic Flute, in case you were wondering!
