This year's Festival Fringe has an enticing selection of opera on view. Apart from Opera Bohemia, with further performances of their enjoyable production of Bohème and the new Gianni Schicchi, there is a chance to see regular performers Opera Alba with their successful programme mixing favourites and the less well known, Edinburgh Studio Opera (Fury and Flirtation: Opera Scenes) and Aria Alba - Opera for All (Magic Flute in a modern take).
The About Turn Theatre Company (Dido and Aeneas) promise exceptional singers and a chamber orchestra, and Magnetic Opera, another name new to the Fringe, brings Barber of Seville.
For those with a taste for new opera, Absolved Passions by Magnone and Wishart Music sounds intriguing.
There are fewer performances than in previous years, but we can hope the quality makes up for it!
