The highlights of the RCS opera season include a UK stage premiere of the Jake Heggie opera Dead Man Walking, to be performed in May 2019.
There is a comic double bill in January, of Puccini's Gianni Schicchi and Poulenc's Les Mamelles de Tirésias.
In March, there is a further double bill. Purcell's evergreen Dido and Aeneas is coupled with Bernstein's Trouble in Tahiti, marking his centenary year.
The well-known format of Opera Scenes is to be staged at the end of November. This year, to coincide with the centenary of the Armistice at the end of the First World War, the scenes will deal with war in all its consequences. Performances of intense emotion showing the best and worst of humanity are to be expected.
This year's programme offers a marvellous variety of work that will bring out the best from the RCS students as they display the skills necessary to set out on a professional career.
