Opera North's starry new production is about to open at the Edinburgh International Festival, and we're seeing only two performances. The Swedish soprano Ylva Kihlberg is making her British debut in the demanding role of Janácek's fascinating heroine, Emilia Marty, who is over three hundred years old. Kihlberg has been a company principal with Copenhagen's Royal Opera since 2000, and is greatly looking forward to the challenge offered by this great operatic part, one she has coveted for some years. "It's a dream role. I love Emilia. She has so many sides."
