Thi year's opera productions offer a number of delights.
Notable are Opera Bohemia's new production of Verdi's Falstaff and Mozart's Idomeneo, performed by Aria Alba-Opera for All.
New opera is represented by Tumbling Lassie, performed by Edinburgh Studio Opera. Music is by Tom Cunningham to a libretto by Alexander McCall Smith.
Opera Allegra are to perform Violetta, a contemporary version of Verdi's Traviata.
The Savoy operas are represented too, with a number of versions. Patience, by Cat-Like Tread, and Pirates Revisited, a version of Pirates of Penzance by Opera North Youth Company catch the eye.
University of St Andrews Gilbert and Sullivan Society are to perform HMS Pinafore.
Opera dei Lumi are to give Handel's Esther - can this really be the first performance in Scotland? Our archivist has been unable to trace another.
Details are posted in our listings.
