Today, Thursday 19 October, Scottish Opera will be one of eight opera companies around the UK taking part in #OperaPassion Day, a superb initiative to promote opera to new audiences, spearheaded by BBC Arts Digital and the V&A Museum in London.
You are able to view and interact with eight hours worth of live opera-related content. This ranges from work by the opera companies themselves, BBC Tomorrow’s World and the V&A’s Opera: Passion, Power and Politics exhibition – including backstage footage, interviews with stars, exclusive live performances from across the country, articles, videos and photographs.
Scottish Opera’s contribution to the day includes a live broadcast of Opera Highlights from the Isle of Islay (if Storm Ophelia stays away); the chance to watch this summer’s performance of Pop-Up La bohème in full; premieres of two very special genre-busting music tracks created by Scottish Opera singers in collaboration with up-and-coming music stars Be Charlotte and Carla J Easton; four exclusive opera-themed cartoons created by Herald cartoonist Steven Camley; in-depth looks at the company's highly-praised BambinO and Memory Spinners initiatives, and an Instagram Stories report from backstage at opening night of La traviata.
All of this content - plus much more - will be available to follow on the BBC Arts Digital #OperaPassion live page: https://www.bbc.co.uk/events/epdgfx/live/cvwbj5, with new content posted every five minutes.
Help us all to spread the magic of opera to audiences far and wide!
