Heroic Handel

Posted 16 Jul 2020

Baroque music ensemble Eboracum Baroque, remembered from their appearances on the Edinburgh Fringe, and award-winning York Gin are teaming up to present ‘Heroic Handel’, a lockdown concert celebrating Handel’s music and the gin craze of his time.

Recorded and filmed in isolation, Eboracum Baroque’s musicians from across the UK and Europe will bring virtuosic arias from Handel’s operas Rinaldo and Giulio Cesare to life, as well as characterful instrumental music. This online offering concludes with the magnificent Coronation anthem, Zadok the Priest.

The group is delighted to be joined by its good friends York Gin, who will present a segment of the concert all about the gin mania of the 18th century (and some cocktail making too!). So dress up as if you were going to watch the concert live, grab a drink and enjoy Handel’s glorious music from the comfort of your own home.

This concert is the culmination of a series of virtual concerts from the ensemble, featuring repertoire for solo instrumentalists and singers, as well as a ‘Spotlight’ series focussing on different instruments from the ensemble.

As well as enjoying a unique performance, we are given a chance to support young professional musicians in these uncertain times and help secure the future of Eboracum Baroque. It will enable the group to continue offering high-quality, engaging musical experiences including concerts, recordings and education workshops.
