Scottish Opera 2023/24

Posted 15 May 2023

Scottish Opera's plans for next season have been announced.  The two long tours, including Aberdeen and Inverness, are revivals of Sir Thomas Allen's memorable Barber of Seville and Sir David McVicar's excellent Traviata.

The new production in the New Year is a UK premiere.  Following the success of Jonathan Dove's comedy Flight a few years ago, they commissioned a follow-up jointly with Bonn.  They now offer the UK premiere.  Marx in London does not, on the face of it, seem an obvious subject for comedy, but it sounds as though his confusing life-style in 1871 does indeed offer much fun.

They continue the exploration of unknown works in concert.  This time the choice goes to the Scottish premiere of a late Richard Strauss piece.  Daphne is full of glorious melody and has been neglected only because it was launched such a short time before the war.

The successful concerts of Puccini and Verdi highlights are now followed by concerts of excerpts entitled The French Collection - Bizet, Gounod and Massenet.

There are also lots of performances of the now-traditional Highlights and Pop-Up tours.

Plenty to enjoy!
